C-T Article by Catherine Stortz Ripley May 18 2017 C-T - Finishing touches are being made to the house at 2111 Lakeview Drive in preparation for an open house Sunday, May 21. The house was constructed by students of Grand River Technical School's building trades program. GRTS students have built a house each year since the 1967-68 school year. Throughout the process, the students do nearly all of what it takes to build the house. "We start with the foundation and build up," said Don Dennis, who teaches the building trades class along with Chris Todd. He explained that the students do the rough framing, roofing, siding, interior finish, sheetrock, drywall, electrical and plumbing work and pour concrete for the driveway and sidewalk.

The house is being constructed by 37 students comprised of students from Chillicothe High School and about six sending schools, as well six adults who are enrolled in the program. This house was built for a local developer, Bill Mast, who owns several lots in Lakeview Estates. Mast submitted the winning bid last year.

Last year's GRTS home was located on Water's Edge Drive in Lakeview Estates and sold at auction for $268,000. The school district chose to offer this year's house up for bid prior to construction, with the requirement that the bid would be at least $15,000 above the construction cost. Qualified bidders submitted floor plans for approval by the building trades instructors. The bid Mast submitted was $17,500 above cost.

This ranch home has a country feel with a convenient location. The three-bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom house features approximately 2,050 square feet with an unfinished basement. It features an open floor plan, vinyl siding with stone accent on the front, custom cabinets along with custom trim throughout, all new kitchen appliances and a main floor laundry room.
There is a nice master bathroom with a jetted tub, shower, and two vanities. There is a covered deck measuring 12-feet by 12- feet. Hardwood floors are in the living room, kitchen, dining room, and hallways. The bathrooms and laundry room have tile floors, and the bedrooms are carpeted. The basement is unfinished but has rough-in plumbing for a bathroom, and there is an egress to the outside. The house features a high efficiency heat pump with gas backup and central air conditioning, a direct vent gas fireplace in the living room, vinyl windows, seamless gutters, and a two-car garage.

Sunday's open house will be from 1 until 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
