At the Grand River Technical School, math instruction is provided for both high school and post-high students. Technical Math I and Technical Math II are nine-month classes for high school juniors and seniors. Technical Math I reviews skills required on employment and certification tests. Technical Math II presents more college preparatory math with some review of the basics. These classes incorporate a variety of career and vocation problems since the students are not separated by their vocation choice.

Technical Math I

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions
  • Measurement – rulers, calipers, micrometers, conversions
  • Ratios and proportions
  • Percents
  • Algebra – simplify, equations
  • Trigonometry – right triangle trig
  • Geometry – review shapes, angles, and properties
  • Area and volume
  • Probability and statistics

Technical Math II

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions
  • College-Prep algebra- simplify, equations, inequalities, factoring, word problems, linear functions
  • Quality control statistics and graphs
  • Trigonometry
  • Robotics
  • Video Game Design

High school students may log on to www.csdmoodle.org for assignments and other class information.

Post-high math classes concentrate on problems from the student’s choice of vocation. Post-high students attend math class for six weeks during the first semester. Post-high students take a computer class during second semester for 7 weeks. During the computer class, students complete a resume, cover letter, and reference sheet. Students that did not take a computer applications class in high school learn the basics about email, internet use, and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

The Grand River Technical School adheres to a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, sex, color, age, or handicapped condition. This policy is effective in all school-controlled programs, including admissions, retention, and financial aid.
