Thoughtful Tuesday: October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. Did you know vapes have addictive nicotine and other harmful chemicals or drugs in them? Many students are faced with pressure from their peers and social media to experiment with drugs. Make sure that you are aware of the warning signs. Need help preparing for this uncomfortable conversation with your student? Check out this discussion guide for caregivers and parents from the American Lung Association: https://www.lung.org/quit-smoking/helping-teens-quit/talk-about-vaping/conversation-guide

This Week
Thoughtful Tuesday Post: In October our District's Counseling Team is promoting Healthy Lifestyles. Watch for tips about how to help students create healthy habits. This week's post is about creating healthy boundaries with screen time. Too much screen time can have an impact on a student's health, as well as their ability to develop healthy relationships with their friends and family. It might shock you the average daily hours spent on screen time for students. These numbers are reported by the Center for Disease Control (CDC): 8-10 years olds: 6 hours, 11-14 years old: 9 hours, 15-18 year olds: 7.5 hours. You can learn more here: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/featured-topic/5-ways-slimming-screen-time-is-good-for-your-health

It's National Custodial Appreciation Day and we'd like to give a huge shout-out to our custodians, who work hard everyday to keep our buildings clean for our students and staff. Thanks so much for all that you do!

Our shelves are getting full and it makes Lendy and I's heart so happy to see the kindness that our CMS students, staff, and families have bestowed on our students in need. If you have any food drive items still in your rooms please have a student bring it down so we can get it on our shelves. Thank you again so much for all of your support! ❤️🖤
