Week 2 Teacher Reflections from Mrs. Keller: "1. Coffee tastes so much better at work. All along it must've been the friends-- not the coffee. 2. As soon as I saw my students' faces on Zoom, I had so much less worry. It was sooo good to see them. 3. After my first 3 Zoom meetings, I received the Inter-office memo on Zoom Etiquette. Oops! It's so hard to contain excitement when seeing students and colleagues! 4. Our district sure was on the ball with this online Distance Learning business. Other districts near and far are still dilly-dallying wondering what to do. Thank you, Mr. Nagel and Dr. Watkins and tech people. 5. Pets are living their best life right now!" #hornetsr2

Week 2 Teacher Reflection from Mrs. Forbes: “I am so thankful for technology because it has allowed me to connect with my students even though we aren’t at school. I’ve been conferencing with kids about their rough drafts this week, so Zoom and the screen sharing option has saved my life. Even though we can’t be in the same room, this is definitely the next best thing!” #hornetsr2

Week 2 Teacher Reflections from Mrs. Duckworth “I have learned to adapt my style of teaching from one that I see my students on an everyday basis to an online format. I love seeing my students and talking with them, and that is what I miss the most. In my curriculum I was already utilizing a lot of online tools for my class, but this online situation has made it to where these are now essential for me to communicate with my students. This week I decided to create a schedule and share it with the students of when I have "Live Lessons" utilizing zoom 2 times a week. This is open for everyone in those sections to join. Each time we meet we go over the material together so we can clear up any questions the students may have. Each time we meet we have a few more students join. I send presentations out everyday with videos explaining the activity that is assigned for the day. I have found this helps the students who need someone to verbally say what it is they need to do. I am amazed at the creativity and the drive the students have in their current situations. Our students don't give up...they strive to succeed. We are creating students who are taking ownership of their own learning and working hard to make sure they learn the content, not just pass a class. Here is an example of how we learn during social distance. We completed a 25 question Jeopardy game that ended with a final jeopardy of the students finding a food in their home and writing 5 sentences about the food to try to sell it to me.“

What do you do when kiddos need help on homework? Take a cue from Mrs. Shipp and Zoom! Mrs. Shipp and students are video conferencing in small groups and one-on-one! She can share her screen, and they can see her model the problem and work through the students’ questions. One Algebra B student asked for refresher on some material, so Mrs. Shipp creates a review video lesson and sent to the class. Thank you to our students and teachers for being problem solvers and working together to continue to learn! #hornetsr2

Week 1 Teacher Reflections from CHS: “What I've learned this week: It's not about what's going wrong. It's about what's going right. Our district is working so hard to continue the education and engagement of our students and I think we will look back on this time and be so proud of ourselves. It would be so easy to just throw in the towel and take the easy path. Instead I feel like we have taken a "Rosie the Riveter" stance. We can do this. It is hard, but we aren't going to give up. #grit” — Ma. Figg #hornetsr2

Thought for the Day: The world needs more leaders right now. True leaders do not always look like movie moments. Leadership looks like simple practices in patiencs; it looks like quiet moments; it looks like kindness.-Esteban Gast from Character Strong #hornetsr2 #kindnessmatters

Week 1 Refections from Mrs. Forbes: “Here is a picture of my workspace—what I’ve learned: 1. I really appreciate that when I’m in school, kids can ask questions face-to-face. It’s so much harder to help kids online. 2. I’ve learned that teaching online is more work than being in school. I would rather come to school everyday! Plus I miss my students!”—Mrs. Forbes

Teacher Reflections: Mrs. Adams “Reflections from this week: 1.  My students are amazing, and they have worked harder than I could have imagined to keep themselves moving forward.   2.  Staring at screens all day is hard on the eyes.  This pic is of me working on a “kitchen chemistry” lab experiment to share with students next week to “mix things up” a bit! 😊” —Mrs. Adams #hornetsr2

CHS Teacher Reflections: Mrs. Surber “I'm missing the faces of my freshmen advisory so I asked them to check in with me and send video of something they are doing to stay sane....Hudson Corzette and Clayton Shanks are camping- in the Rain! And doing their schoolwork while camping! Both said they are done by 11am every day. How cool is that??” —Mrs. Surber #hornetsr2

CHS Teacher Reflections Week 1: Mrs. Constant "I am certainly learning a lot! Thanks to my English colleagues and Dr. Watkins, I have learned how to invite parents to see what he or her kiddos are doing on classroom! I have also learned that MOST of my students have been performing at a rock star level! I spend most of each day responding to student questions, and grading completed assignments!" --Mrs. Constant #hornetsr2

Week 1 Reflections from Mrs. Marsh: Mr. Roger's said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'" I am looking for the helpers and am finding them everywhere...from the group delivering meals to our students, to Mrs. Hill, my daughter's teacher, that is corresponding with her through videos. I am being reminded that our community is resilient and can tackle anything together! #hornetsr2

If you wonder if our teachers are still teaching, let me put your worries to rest! These teachers are #rockstars! 👇🏻 Week 1: CHS Teacher Reflections Mr. Fairley is having Zoom video chats with students working together through problems on homework as they work through radical equations and graphing quadratics. “ I’ve learned that our school community coupled with the community of Chillicothe as a whole has so much resilience and grit. I couldn’t be more proud and thankful to be part of both as we work through this thing together. “ —Mr. Fairley
