Grand River Technical School offers two high school English classes for Juniors and Seniors. In order to be enrolled in Applied Communications, a student must be enrolled in at least three hours of classes at GRTS or the Litton Ag Center. A passing grade in either course gives a student one English credit toward high school graduation.
COURSE RATIONAL
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and understanding fiction and non-fiction empowers students to achieve life goals through individual efforts and resourcefulness.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Communication Arts III AC is a year-long course designed to better prepare vocational students for post-high work as students in technical schools, at community colleges, four-year colleges, or in the workforce. Through this reading and writing intensive course, students can further develop the communication skills needed to succeed in life. This course strengthens reading, writing, and communication skills through the use of fiction and non-fiction materials, group work, critical thinking, problem-solving, and verbal presentations.
Communication Arts IV AC is a year-long course designed to better prepare vocational students for post-high work as students in technical schools, at community colleges, four-year colleges, or in the workforce. Through this reading and writing intensive course, students can further develop communication skills. Specific skills taught include critical thinking, working in groups, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating problems, works of fiction and nonfiction, verbal presentation, and research.
GRADING SCALE
Grades for this course are determined by points earned during daily work, projects, tests, and quizzes. Students will also be graded on “employability”. This means that the student’s participation and behavior will figure into their overall grade.
